Buenos Aires, 1960.
In February 1996, the Argentine artist Fernando García Delgado started a participatory project between artists from the publication of Vortice. The project generated new ideas and took various forms, from stamps, postcards, journals, artist books, and graphic objects to the organization of various international events. All these issues and activities fall within the artistic project called Vortice Argentina, which covers a wide variety of disciplines and forms, and enters to the global network of mail art, poetry and the visual artist's book, participating, organizing and reporting on everything related to these activities, nationally and internationally.
From 1997 to the present he co-edited, along with Juan Carlos Romero, the publication Vortex³, about experimental visual and graphic poetry. In 1998 he opened the “Barraca Vorticista” in his particular home-workshop, the first auditorium in our country for the exclusive presentation of projects and exhibitions related with mail art and visual poetry. In 2001 his project was awarded by the Argentine Association of Art Critics. The site presents the documentation of all the activities undertaken by Vortice Argentina.
Vision of art
1. Choose a work that represents you, describe it in relation to its format and materiality, its relation with time and space, its style and theme; detail its production process.
“Paideuma Nº 36 / efe: intensity | Energy | will” [“Paideuma n° 36 / efe: intensidad | energía | voluntad”]
"I belong to a reality which does not exist yet"
Thought based on three concepts; they interrelate with each other, without an established order, maintain a close chaotic link, and make the creative triangle of the sentence. Understanding thrown into the ethereal abyss, lived in the bright interior uniquely; it finds company of the precise silence, and there comes the provocative image of the sentence. 2. In general terms, how would you suggest to approach your work?
Apart from the works and projects organized by and for Vortice Argentina and “Barraca Vorticista”, for most than 12 years I’ve been doing own works called "Paideumas", with different classifications and descriptions; they are intimate, quite complex, and with a rooted internal and sensorial navigation.
3. In reference to your work and your position in the national and international art fields, what tradition do you recognize yourself in? Who are your contemporary referents? What artists of previous generations are of interest to you?
Contemporary referents: Bob Dylan, Ezra Pound, Joseph Beuys, Edgardo A. Vigo and Juan Carlos Romero. Previous Artists: V. Van Gogh, W. Kandinsky, Hugo Ball, K. Schwitters, Wyndham Lewis and Henri Gaudier-Brzeska, among others. Later artists: Ivana Vollaro, Alberto Méndez, Fernanda De Broussais, Inti Pujol and Víctor Sita, among others.
4. Choose works or exhibitions from the last ten or fifteen years which in your opinion were very significant and explain why
An exhibition that I consider very significant in the last 10 years was that of León Ferrari at the Recoleta Cultural Center in 2004, because it was a struggle, not just within the artistic scene, but within the whole culture, against censorship and political management in art, far beyond the exhibition of an individual artist, it affected us all.
