Biography
He is formed at the Pablo Suárez's studio in Buenos Aires at the time he got contact with the artists of his generation, with whom in the year 1983 relished his first exhibitions in “The Zone” self arranged space by the group he belongs to: “The last painters”. His work is centered in drawings and paintings, but from a particular vision of both. The word is an essential element in all image gestation, and in his work he investigates a “going and returning” of these in which he questions about their functionality giving them a new semantic possibility. He is interested I study the artist and art history movements, that he use to realize conflicted readings from where a lot of his works are born. Vision of art
1. Choose a work that represents you, describe it in relation to its format and materiality, its relation with time and space, its style and theme; detail its production process.
“Administrate the existent” this piece has been realized in Appetite, in Buenos Aires, march 2007, inside my exhibition “Loudspeaker Paintings”. “Administrate the existent” contains many of my formal and conceptual worries; the piece was realized with found elements (garbage, etc) in the hall at the “staging time”. A sentence with that much contained helps me to question also the art world in which we are moving as the place from where we see and act, also with our equal ones as with the environment. I'm very interested in the different readings that provokes in the viewers in social places and politically like Buenos Aires and Barcelona.
2. In general terms, how would you suggest to approach your work?
There are many and they are for free election. But I could give a clue, look at it from a thinking place and where the history from where I come is more present than what it shows off.
3. In reference to your work and your position in the national and international art fields, what tradition do you recognize yourself in? Who are your contemporary referents? What artists of previous generations are of interest to you?
In all and any, I'm particularly interested in that look always a little distant and at the same time critical and enthusiastic of the Latin American vanguard artists, who had yearning and capacity to contribute to their surrounding world with something new. I'm interested in a lot of artists, of all periods and places.
4. Choose works or exhibitions from the last ten or fifteen years which in your opinion were very significant and explain why
The last of Pablo Suárez, because of it visual forcefulness, and a formal and conceptual contribution that only a few could see. There are a lot of interesting artist today with sophisticated language in the local panorama, would be obvious to list them. What I admire from Argentinean art is this coexistence of different trends.
