Biography
I studied Fine Arts at the Escuela Manuel Belgrano, in Barracas, between 1986 and 1989. Among my fellow classmates there was Agustín Inchausti, with whom I took part in a workshop at the Abasto for about 6 or 7 years. In 1994 I was awarded with a fellowhip from the Fundación Antorchas and attended the Taller de Barracas for two years. I then abandoned all artistic activities until 2000, devoting myself to business.
In 2000, I decided to resume them, and that’s what I’m doing now.
Vision of art
1. Choose a work that represents you, describe it in relation to its format and materiality, its relation with time and space, its style and theme; detail its production process.
The work I choose is untitled, such as every work of mine for the last 5 years. It's a small 25x35cm. graphite on paper drawing; paper is on a medium density fibreboard, glazed white. The drawing is very simple, it consists on many paralell lines forming some sort of wave. It looks very dynamic, as if made at great speed, but it was quite the contrary. It was made very slowly, millimiter by millimiter and freehanded.
2. In general terms, how would you suggest to approach your work?
Sitting down, and taking your time.
3. In reference to your work and your position in the national and international art fields, what tradition do you recognize yourself in? Who are your contemporary referents? What artists of previous generations are of interest to you?
I've always worked in museums in Buenos Aires, I have been and still am to this day, connected with different collections of Argentine art. Being in contact with all those paintings and those artists for so long has obviously influenced me. I'm particularly interested in geometric abstraction, in concrete art, and that's what I recognize as my reference. I'm specially interested in artists like Juan Del Prete, Raul Lozza, Lidy Pratti, Tomás Maldonado, Carlos Silva, Víctor Magariños, Sergio Avello, Fabián Burgos and Pablo Siquier. Sol LeWitt, Gego, Oiticica, Ligia Clark, Frank Stella. Julie Mehretu, Russell Crotty, Artur Lescher. Jiro Taniguchi, Robert Crumb, Moebius, Tom Waits, David Byrne.
4. Choose works or exhibitions from the last ten or fifteen years which in your opinion were very significant and explain why
Geometries, the exhibition of the Cisneros Collection at Malba. Sol LeWitt in Proa. Siquier in Ruth Benzacar (the last two). within these exhibitions are the works I want to see.
