Biography
I was born in Buenos Aires and they call me ia-ia, just as it sounds. The first person to call me that way was Luciano, when we were kids trying to pronounce Valeria. But how did it end up being ia ia? I don’t know. We spent our weekends in Monte Grande, in my grandfather’s estate. I used to build houses made with branches sitting over the trees, where I spent my afternoons, I don’t remember well what I did up there… but I do remember that it was a world reigned by sandwiches of milanesas [TN: meat covered with breadcrumbs, typical food in Argentina] and red knees, always…
Long after that, I studied graphic design in the Buenos Aires University, some years (but not very happy) that however were worth the while because I could later study drawing with Pablo Siquier and, later on, painting with Sergio Bazán. I always drew but I started to paint four years ago. Last year (2007), I won Curriculum Cero at the Ruth Benzacar Gallery (Buenos Aires).
Vision of art
1. Choose a work that represents you, describe it in relation to its format and materiality, its relation with time and space, its style and theme; detail its production process.
Untitled (self-portrait 2007). Acrylic over a fabric of 200 cm x 150 cm, and I choose it because I think that that painting sensed many more things than myself at that time.
2. In general terms, how would you suggest to approach your work?
I don’t know.
